SOMERTON MAN MYSTERY

The Evidence The Facts In Detail In Depth

TAMAM SHUD, THE SOMERTON MAN MYSTERY: A SUMMATION, FOR A CONCLUSION IS NOT YET WITHIN SIGHT....

... ‘Words are like Leaves; and where they most abound,

Much Fruit of Sense beneath is rarely found.’...
Alexander Pope..

With those few words, I'll get straight to the point

In the previous post, I  added to the inventory of evidence that points to the likelihood that Carl Webb is not the Somerton Man.

In that post, a significant and valid question was raised regarding the possibility of a second plaster bust or a modified one being used to demonstrate the extraction of hair samples.

Other issues in that inventory include the following:

1. The statement by Dr. Xanthe Mallet that she doubted whether the true identity of the Somerton Man will ever be known.

2. The Statement by Professor Abbott that he had sent multiple hair samples with roots and shafts to Astrea for DNA analysis all of which had produced negative results.

3. A subsequent statement by Professor Abbott regarding the last hair he had in his possession, a 5 cm long rootless shaft sample that was sent to Astrea and which produced a positive result. No other samples remain that can be tested to substantiate the Carl Webb claim.

4. The comparison images show that Carl Webb's ear shape did not match the shape of the ear of the Somerton Man.

A conclusion can only come from the SA Coroner and his findings based on all the known evidence.

  1. The title for the page was deliberately chosen as you might have guessed. The unseemly infighting occuring at another blog was to be expected given the nature of those that post regularly comment on its pages. Their pages are laden with meaningless 'leaves' that cover even more meaningless thoughts. Pope's words were never truer nor better applied:

    'Eternal smiles his emptiness betray,
As shallow streams run dimpling all the way.
Whether in florid impotence he speaks,
And, as the prompter breathes, the puppet squeaks'
