...A WEBB FAMILY PASSING...
...Trove Reference here...
Amongst the names shown is Charles Webb, one of 4 children being Charles (Richard), Dorrie, Norman, and Ethel. A search shows that Charles Richard Webb was born in 1918 in Camperdown which is 190 km to the West of Melbourne and on the main road from Geelong to Warrnambool.
Given the estimated date of the family gathering photograph of 1933 ( 1. below), I wondered whether Charles Richard Webb, who would have been 15 years old at the time, was in that photograph? The circled Charles ( 2. below) is a possibility although it's a fact that the resemblance between that Charles and the one shown in the small family group photo (3. below) is very strong.

Charles Richard Webb? Carl Charlie Webb?

Whilst I find the whole Webb family story interesting, and I am sure it brings back memories for you in particular Stuart, and I will add my voice to the many who are grateful for the information that you have supplied; we are still left with the ongoing issue of the final identification of the exhumed remains to confirm or otherwise, the ID of those remains.
A Comparison
There are similarities across the 3 photographs, family resemblances perhaps. I would note that the photo of Charles Richard Webb was likely taken at the time of his enlistment, he would have been 22 years old yet in the photo, he looks quite a lot older.
To this point, there does not appear to be a date of death for this Charles Richard Webb. There is a record of his marriage to 'Paparina Maria Divola' in 1943. (Paparina Maria Divola link) Paparina passed away in September 2013 in Somerville Victoria, about 50 km SE of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula.
There is also a record for Charles Richard Webb in Arncliffe in Sydney NSW, it is a lawyer's advert dated July 15th, 1950 regarding the will of the man who was late of Arncliffe and was apparently a storeman. LINK HERE
As stated it's all very interesting but we are still left with the question, will the DNA from the exhumed remains match that of Charles Webb, and in particular will the dental chart, match the dental chart of the Somerton Man?
One day we may just break away from the vortex that this case has become.

Wondering when the intrepids will discover the Babberly connection? It has all the signs.
ReplyDeleteCharley's Aunt! Well, at least we know what you've been reading lately! :) :)
ReplyDeleteNever underestimate GC … PB.
ReplyDeleteI hasten to add that the fact the original play was written as a 3 act farce is entirely coincidental.
