SOMERTON MAN MYSTERY

The Evidence The Facts In Detail In Depth

SOMERTON MAN MYSTERY: IS ONE OF THESE MEN CARL WEBB? PHOTOGRAPH....

A 1945 PHOTOGRAPH

AIRCRAFT ASSEMBLY MELBOURNE....

       FISHERMAN'S BEND....

According to records, one of the men in this photo is named Webb. The date of the image is 1945, it was taken at the Government Aircraft Factory at Fishermans Bend. the occasion was the rollout of the last CA Boomerang. I noticed one man who was wearing a left-to-right diagonal striped tie, his ears were noticeable as well but what do you think?

Some additional information, many of these aircraft were put through their paces at Woomera, which opened in June 1947, it was apparently quite common for various fitters, etc. to spend time in Woomera in support/development roles.

For those unfamiliar with the location of Fisherman's Bend, it is a short ride out of town to the location near Port Melbourne, around a 10-minute drive from Southbank...

  1. Yep, he certainly looks like a younger version of the deceased. The tie stands out a bit eh?

  3. Thanks Pete, he does look quite similar, best candidate thus far. Not a bad quality image either, worth downloading and magnifying.

  4. How about 3rd from left, sleeve rolled up? Appears to have a large hand. Imo, compares well to Swinburne footy photo (bottom left) and SM.

  5. Since you found Carl Webb in a group photo of the celebration of Last Boomerang rolling off the production line at the Government Aircraft Factory in 1945, we should have a look at what was Carl's role and whether this had anything to do with why he died.

Firstly, he had family who also worked there.
Percival McMinn, and later his dad Gilbert McMinn who was married to Selina Keane.

Percival Gilbert Mcminn is Carl Webb AKA Somerton Man's brother-in-law's first cousin once removed.

Here's a basic biography of Percival.

For 10 years after that he worked with TAA as a toolmaker. At first after his marriage he lived for 10 years in Seddon and then built a new house at 6 Crowley Crt, Pascoe Vale. His father also shifted to Pascoe Vale and lived at the end of his street. Perc was also a freemason like his dad and became lodge master at his lodge.

Here's a basic biography of Gilbert.

  8. As is usual, it seems that some are a little light on about the rules of this blog. Firstly this is not a forum, this is a blog and I use this to contribute information to the discussion on the Somerton Man case. This endeavour has met with regular success and the intention is to keep it that way. I am in the position where I am able to keep oversight and monitor what is said by whom.

I specifically do not allow comments by known trolls and also keep the identities of contributors confidential. In the past some of these trolls have gone as far as contacting people whose name have been published here with all good intent. For that reason, amongst others, I decided to not respond to the various trolls who, thanks to the best technologies, I am able to quickly identify. I do not publish troll comments and I have barred a number of known trolls for that reason. A known troll is one who has been barred from other blogs and forums.

In the end, I decide what is published and when, I do that to protect my sources from the mindless attacks of abusive trolls. they have certainly and sadly, infected the Somerton Man case but they will not infect this blog.
