SOMERTON MAN CODE CRACKED: THE DANETTA CODE, THE SUITCASE & A QUIZ

THE SOMERTON MAN SUITCASE...

....Many people look at this image and start to list the contents BUT, in so doing, they may miss the obvious as in the suitcase itself. There were two major suitcase manufacturers in Australia in the 1940s,, Globite and Antler, there were others. Where was this suitcase made do you think?

What can be said about this suitcase?

1. It's brown in color, it has no lining, there are two side latches, a centre lock, and what looks like a leather handle. The lower part of the case is quite dust-covered.

2. The case itself looks like it is of vulcanized fibre construction.

3. There are corner reinforcement pieces on the base, and a single strut supports the lid on the left of the image.

4. The top of the lower portion of the case has been stiffened with reinforced corners.

5. The lid itself has what appears to be chrome edging, the inside of the lid is very clean, recently wiped but with no apparent wipe marks.

How many ties can you count?
How many pencils?
What else do you see?

  1. I think the suitcase is much older than you think it is.
