THE TRAINING OF A SPY?

ALF WAS THE HANDLER & JESS was the double agent working for Australian Military Intelligence via Alf as the controller. Read More Below...

So many stories and so many rumours about Jess and Alf Boxall. Were they lovers or were they something quite different? Well, the truth is out and you read it first here almost 3 years ago.

The supposed meeting at the Clifton Gardens Hotel in August 1945 was when Jestyn handed the book to Alf as a gift. I don't think so.

I think that Alf and Jess met in 1944 and possibly earlier, not long after she joined the CPA in Sydney.

For some years we have maintained the view that this book contains hidden messages and it was in fact used to train Jestyn and others in the fine arts of clandestine communications and concealment. But where was the proof?

Carefully written into the image of the lady with the fez illustration that adorns the page opposite the title page in the now-famous copy of the Collins edition Rubaiyat are a series of letters and numbers that you can make out in the areas marked on the image to the right. There is far more within the fez but it will need to wait until more equipment arrives.

This image and the images that follow are absolute proof that the relationship between Alf and Jestyn was that of handler and agent.

In another post almost 3 years ago we reported the meetings between Alf and Jess at the RNSH where she worked, read more here:

The Clandestine Codes & Messages

But what did these codes and messages contain? It's straight forward really, Alf sent information to Jess about ship movements in Sydney Harbour, and possibly elsewhere, knowing that the information was low grade and of little value or use to the target organisation, the Soviets via the Communist Party of Australia based in Sydney but with representation in Adelaide. There was a network of CPA chapters throughout SA.

The full story will be revealed before long but for now, suffice to say, yet again, that both Alf and Jess and others were part of an Australian Military Intelligence network. There's so much more to follow//

Boxall Book Images:

The images are a result of some long and arduous hours working with a specialised infrared camera and lighting set up. These are from the first cut and there many more to come.

Here is an example of how microcode was written into the letters on the title page of the Boxall book. A very smart way to conceal messages in plain sight. All of the letters in the title contain this form of code.

This bunch of grapes on the left also adorns the title page, the arrows point to specific instances of writing within two of the grapes but if you look closely you will find more. A later post deals with these clandestine methods in more detail.

This final image is from the image of the lady with the fez.

Near her waist is a design that was made to incorporate strings of letters and numbers. In fact, most of her form is made up of letters and numbers.

What you see here is far more than a couple of people playing around with tiny writing, this is a serious and sophisticated clandestine communication method and the book was used as a training aid. We now have the proof with more to come on the Verse 70 inscription, the code page, and the torn TAMAM SHUD piece.

As far as I am aware, this is the first time that anyone has found this kind of code method in use.
