SOMERTON MAN MYSTERY

The Evidence The Facts In Detail In Depth

TAMAM SHUD, THE SOMERTON MAN MYSTERY; ABLE SEAMAN CARL WEBB. AN UPDATE…

 Curiouser & Curiouser…

And the search goes on. The US archives drew a blank, and the Pacific seaman’s union drew a blank. There was a Carl Webb in Carolina of similar age to AB Carl Webb but he was not in the merchant marine. US  Death records to this point, are also a dead end, so to speak.

Looking over the information, it seems likely that the Able Seaman Carl Webb aboard the Golden Sun in 1934, was not a US citizen. We also found that he was not a UK citizen. But this of course does not necessarily make him an Australian either.

There are still a couple of avenues left to pursue, and that work is underway.

Able Seaman Carl Webb is still a possibility but not as yet a probability.

For those new to the case. AB Carl Webb was a crewman on board ships that plied the Pacific during the 20s and 30s. He was the same age as ‘Charlie’ Webb. However AB Carl Webb was only 5 feet 8 inches tall. The Somerton Man who it has been claimed was ‘Charlie’ Webb, was 5 feet 11 inches tall.

The Americans weren't the only ones to run Merchant ships in the 1930s across the Pacific, the Brits did as well and they called into Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Might want to check out UK sips crew lists, I found 3 Carl Webbs in there. And they were back in the mid 40s after the war.

  2. That sounds interesting, did any of the Carl Webbs you found have the same age as Charles Webb?
