SOMERTON MAN: CARL WEBB AND TIBOR KALDOR LINKED....UPDATED August 15th

....HOW WERE THESE TWO MEN CONNECTED?....

 On the left we have a photograph of Tibor Kaldor. Tibor, an ex-internee, was found dead in a room at the Victoria Hotel in Hindley Street, Adelaide on December 14th. 1948.

On the right we have an image of the Somerton Man who is currently believed to be Carl 'Charles Webb. As we all know, the Somerton Man was found dead on Somerton Beach near Adelaide on December 1st 1948.

What if anything links these two men? This building may be a beginning:

The building above is The Meyer Manufacturing Company, in 1948 and for some 3 years earlier, it was situated at 30 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. This photograph was dated 1950, the year that this building was sold.I believe to The Sisters of the Community

In those days that location was a 20-minute drive or 30 odd minutes by tram from Tibor Kaldor's home at 10 The Avenue, Windsor. 

In a map posted at the end of July, HERE, a map was included that showed the location between Tibor's home and that of Carl Webb:

A short drive away or perhaps a 20-minute tram ride. What was not included was the location of The Meyer Manufacturing Company, rectified here :

From Tibor's in The Avenue in Windsor to his workplace at Meyer Manufacturing, is currently a 30-minute tram ride if you set out at 7 am, interestingly, the tram passes the end of Bromby Street, the home of Carl Webb.

That's all well and good but how do we connect Carl Webb?

To do that we need to look at The Meyer Manufacturing Company.

First things first is it the sort of place that would employ someone like Carl? Here's an advert from the Argus dated  6th June 1947: 

This, at least, shows that the skills are a fit. Did Carl apply for this job? A very good question. Read on.

THE OWNERS:

Trawling through Trove, I came across an amusing but nonetheless informative article. It is related to several thousand birds dressed up in plastic plumage. I kid you not :) You can read about it hgere on this  TROVE PAGE...

The article delivers though because we get the names of the owners and that is where things get to be really interesting:

1. Samuel Mark Goldbloom

2. Norman Rothfield

Both were prominent members of the Jewish community and both have CIS/ASIO files. Both were known to be 'undercover communists' per extract from an ASIO report

Mr. Rothfield had connections in Adelaide and Sydney as well as overseas including the Soviet Union. His file is filled with names and contacts in Melbourne and some in Adelaide.

Mr. Goldbloom has a file and it's on order.

What do we have now?

Both men lived in close proximity

Tibor had a job as a machine operator at Meyer Manufacturing

Meyer Manufacturing employed people with Carl Webbs skills

Both Tibor and Carl are found dead, poisoned, in Adelaide within 2 weeks of each other.

Tibor left a last letter, a suicide note if you will. On putting the words from the first paragraph of that letter through an online acrostic decoder, the name DANETTA was generated. 

The first result was pushed through the decoder and produced the following:

'AND SEE DANETTA AND SUITCASE DANETTA DANETTA DANETTA DANETTA'

Carl had a torn slip of paper in a secret fob pocket which was linked to a mysterious code and a copy of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

Two men, who lived in close proximity to each other in the State of Victoria, two deaths of poisoning, two strange codes, both found in the neighbouring State of  South Australia, and both having a possible common place of work.
