CARL WEBB THE SOMERTON MAN & TIBOR KALDOR.... PROXIMITY JOINS THEM: UPDATED July 30th 2022- FREDERICK WEBB

PROXIMITY...

....The Google Map grab above shows the approximate distance between the homes of Carl Webb and Tibor Kaldor and the time taken by today's tram service between the 2 locations is just 20 minutes. It's a 10-minute car drive but a longer walk, 45 minutes or so, a couple of lengthy streets, and a walk across Fawkner Park for Tibor.

For the record, Tibor lived at 10 The Avenue for some time and Carl at Bromby Street in South Yarra.

Tibor Kaldor,  followers will recall, was found dead in a room at the Victoria Hotel, Hindley Street Adelaide barely 2 weeks after Carl Webb, (The Somerton Man) was found on Somerton Beach.

Did they meet? Did they share a common interest? Did they have similar jobs perhaps?

The images below are examples in response to a request:

VERSE MICROCODE EXAMPLES:

The above image shows the presence of microcode within the letters of the word THE, it is actually from the title page of the Alf Boxall Rubaiyat and it is just one example, there are more.

In its present state, it hasn't been 'cleaned up' to remove the 'dusty' areas around each letter.

Let's look at each letter as numbered:

1. The letter T and in the upright you can see the darker markings I believe these to be pencil markings inside the inked typeface. If you look closely, you can see that the various numbers actually overlap the edge of the typeface letter T very slightly. Note also that each number is close to vertical in placement

2. Again an arrangement of numbers within the first upright of the letter H, but in this case, there isn't an overlap, The characters have slightly more of a forward incline or slope than those in the letter T.

3 & 4 are similarly stacked with characters

Because the human eye is not accustomed to seeing this kind of concealed writing, you should let your eyes rest on each example and allow them to focus.

In some instances, there will be scattered print artefacts but when I show them you will see that they are quite different in shape.

This is the INK H method as described in an SOE manual as a clandestine communication tool.

I hope you will understand that I can only show so much here as I do have an obligation to my publishers but I will publish what I can.

FREDERICK ALEXANDER WEBB 1941 SOMERTON

Best I can do for the moment, it was very faded on Trove.

  3. Catching Lines: Not exactly from your part of the world but had a brother-in-law from Spennymoor., think I spelt that right. We share an interest in verse I see. Regarding your last message, I am putting together a presentation that includes examples from the case, a download for the SOE manual that describes the technique as used by SOE and will include a test experiment. Would like to see your example, my email for this blog is shown in the previous comment. The aim is to get the presentation done by Tuesday of next week. In the meantime I have will include an image in the above post that may answer some of your questions. Have a great weekend Marra.

  4. Ok by the way, the Russian spy I identified as the SM grew up with Tibor Kaldor.

  5. I'll post the DANETTA meaning here. What does Tamam Shud translate to?

  6. So Tamam Shud translates to "it's over" or "the end". My theory on Danetta is as follows-
    DANETTA written backwards is Attenad.
    ATT - means Attention
ENAD - translated from Ukrainian to English is OVER
    DANETTA = Attention Over
I do not believe Jestyn gave Alf the Rubaiyat in 1945, I think it was sent/given to him in late 1948 to signify their mission was over. So too the other examples you found.

    1. To clarify, Alf was probably given the copy in the mid 40s but the inscription was added in 1948

  7. Trove, June 5th 1941 (The Advertiser). Frederick Alexander Webb of Moseley Street Glenelg was found dead Glenelg Beach. He had recently taken over a business at Glenelg. There was another man found dead at West Beach the same day.

  8. Now that's a find! Wonder what his address was in Moseley Street and which business he had taken over? Time to look at State Archives.

  9. The inquest held on 19th June 1941 stated that it was a drowning and it was off Somerton. There was a brother in law named Joseph Albert Morphet, also a Storekeeper of Kingswood (Somewhat famous surname). Mr. Webb was in good health, no financial problems and in good spirits in the time leading up to his death. There was no suggestion of foul play.

  10. I should add that this may or may not be a good lead, as it is, it's interesting if there is a family link then it becomes more so, It could just be one of those odd coincidences that seem to crop up quite regularly with the Somerton Man case.
