SOMERTON MAN: PREDICTIONS 2021

THE YEAR AHEAD: THOUGHTS ON LIKELY EVENTS FOR THE SOMERTON MAN CASE IN 2021

These thoughts are the result of the hours spent immersed in the details of the case and past events, I am not in a position to put specific dates in place, so for what they're worth, here are my predictions:

1. More ASIO files on the CPA and its membership in SA will be released

2. Most of the current discussion on DNA searches will be ditched, some elements may remain with new DNA technologies being utilised

3. Any lines of enquiry surrounding the SMs ears and the assumed Anodontia, will be abandoned

4. There will be significant doubt over the exhumation, it is unlikely to go-ahead

5. More evidence will emerge about the relationship between Alf Boxall and Jestyn

6. More evidence will emerge about the involvement of Intelligence services in the SM case

7. New information about Tibor Kaldor will be made available

8. Robins father is named, it will not be the Somerton Man

9. New information regarding Pavel Fedosimov will emerge

10. New AI technologies will help reveal even more about the use of microcodes in the SM case

That about sums it up, please understand these items are my own personal views based on my knowledge of the case and the in-depth research carried out to date. No doubt there will be other issues raised in the year ahead and, as usual, many will come and most will go.

And number 11...

DO NOT TOLERATE ONLINE ABUSE OR TROLLS IN 2021

From a legislative perspective, new Australian Laws will be introduced governing online abuse and trolls. The bill currently before Parliament mentions fines of up to $550,000 for companies and $111,000 for individuals and in severe cases, imprisonment for up to 6 years has been put forward.

Up until now, laws were in place, and rightly so, that covered the online abuse and trolling of children and young people, that was in response to the extremely sad incidents of young victims taking their own lives, I think that there were 15 such suicides the year before last. It was found that suicide rates amongst adult victims in Australia was/is also extremely distressing with an estimated 50 adults ending their own lives in 2019. The total number of suicides in Australia in 2019 I believe was 3200.

Encouragingly the new legislation will extend to website and blog owners and ISPs who knowingly harbour trolls. They will be forced to reveal related information and emails and may face similar penalties.

Trolls are known to have mental health issues with various personality disorders. As a result, they totally lack empathy for their victims, they have no consideration for what may be happening in their victims' lives.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing great stress for any reason, please reach out, there are great organisations there just waiting to help you. In Australia we suggest:

LIFELINE: 13 11 14, 24 hour services

As most will know, the Tamam Shud blog and our sister blog, An Empty Glass, have zero-tolerance towards trolls and have not and will not allow troll comments or posts. Big Footy, Reddit and Adelaide-based blog Some Random Stuff, are also clear on their anti-troll stance particularly in the Somerton Man space which has a few vociferous trolls who proudly and loudly admit to being banned from numerous sites because of their abusive attacks on others. When the new legislation comes into force, you will be able to report any instances of online abuse directly to Law Enforcement.

  2. Smiled about that!

From your training PeteDavo, you may recall a lesson on interrogation, my clear recollection was that you must always be aware of what is not said as well as that which is said. It's 'Freudian slip' territory for the suspect, they often give themselves and their real motives away by what is not said.

I noticed one commenter on another blog lay great emphasis the rights to freedom of speech of some and not one word about the victims and the unacceptably high toll of those who sadly end their own lives, 50 in Australia alone in just one year. That commenters words were disappointing but not altogether surprising.

This anti-troll legislation will change the internet environment for the better. My understanding is that there is discussion about retrospectivity, 5 years?, and of reciprocal arrangements with countries 'friendly' to Australia. The UK, US, certain European countries and even SE Asian ones amongst them. I would imagine that the lawmakers will be out to score some early wins and make an example of those found guilty.
