UPDATE

There have been advances made in the Somerton Man case in recent times, and today is no exception. Here's a short list:

 1. The total number of unidentified bodies in Australia is approximately 750. These poor souls are in the queue awaiting their turn to have their case examined and, hopefully, their identity found. The Somerton Man case is still not resolved from the perspective of the inquest findings not yet made public.

2. Recently, the margin of error in the Carl Webb height estimation was found to be .94%, which makes the likelihood that Carl Webb was 5 feet 8 inches tall even more probable

3. Having spent quite some time on this particular issue, we now have evidence that human hair was indeed collected and sold for use in sculpture work and modelling, including embedding human hair in plaster. The difference is that Human hair was not used to reinforce plaster bust construction; it was, in fact, used for realism. There will be a post on that shortly. The implications are of course significant.

  1. Human hair was part of the bust, that’s a huge find. I thought they’d not been able to find any records of it. How did you get on to that?

  2. It was hard to find but eventually it came down to looking in the right places. Human hair was used but not for strengthening as I had previously thought, it was all about realism. There’ll be a post on it shortly. It has a big impact and it certainly explains a few inconsistencies.
