THE SOMERTON MAN INQUEST DOCUMENTS:
I have just received the images from this file, they appear to be the original documents from the court and not the typed-up copies that have been generally available, There are more than 150 pages in total so my first task is to sort through and organise them in the correct sequence. Then these new docs will need to be compared to the previous, publicly available, documents. At first glance, I noticed some differences in the number of initialed items and crossed-out lines but we do need to be absolutely certain so will be taking the necessary time to review them all.
Wow! I can’t wait to see these!
ReplyDeleteSome of them are quite blurred ao they need to processed, there are some good software tools that should do the trick. I have to stress that I don't, at this stage, know exactly what's in them. So don't build your hopes up just yet.
ReplyDeleteDo these records include the exhibits and/or original autopsy notes made by Dwyer and and others involved like Cleland (Pathologist), Cowan etc?
ReplyDeleteI don't know just what they contain as yet but I will publish whatever found. Making a start on it in the morning. Personally in addition to your list, I would like to see the record of the proceedings normally taken at the time. By that I mean the actual questions put to witnesses, by whom and any responses.
ReplyDeleteYes - if they did take transcripts (or similar) they would be great. It’s very curious as to there being two sets of records but it might be the case that the records that have made it to the public domain are the “polished” versions and that what you have are the “raw” versions, which would be very illuminating if indeed they are the “raw” versions.
ReplyDeleteDerek has just promoted a podcast he did (recorded pre Xmas and just released now) and he asserts in the first ten
Minutes that a police report to the Coroner is imminent AND that he believes it confirms his ID.
I guess we have to wait for the Police Documents to be released. They may prove that the remains contain the DNA of Carl Webb but will they prove that Carl Webb is the Somerton Man?
DeleteAnd when I say initially “original notes” and then describe “raw notes” - I mean one and the same thing Gordon 😁
ReplyDeleteAN UPDATE:
ReplyDeleteWorking through the images received, the page count:
1. The 149 PDF of the Inquest files contained 102 pages . There were 52 blank pages amongst them. Thus the net number of documents was 50.
2. The 1958 PDF of the inquest files contained 122 pages of which I counted 64 blank pages. The next number of documents was 58.
Bear in mind that the 1958 inquest document was in the most part a duplication if the 1949 inquest. So the first task is to identify the new pages produced in 1958.
The interesting thing is that the new images of the inquest documents taken in Adelaide last week total 90. However the reasons for that could be duplications of the pages photographed.
Will update this information once the search has been completed.
Need to rectify the total pages/images in the raw document, there are 106 images not 90. I believe that there are duplications which will be removed. In the meantime, I will make available the raw photographs taken last week, they will be in PDF format and downloadable in this post.
