SOMERTON MAN: TIBOR KALDOR, JESSICA THOMPSON STRONGLY LINKED TO THE CODE PAGE, GOVERNMENT SOURCE, UPDATED 27th DECEMBER 2016

TIBOR KALDOR LINKED TO CODE PAGE

Senator Cavanagh
Some months back, a friend of mine, JR,, sent me a link to an item in the Australian Government's 1970 Hansard. It detailed the findings of a senator, James L. Cavanagh, who had been contacted by an unnamed man who claimed to have partially solved the SM code. Here's the  first Hansard link  and here's the second, more detailed link

Just last week Clive messaged me and was excited about this same code which appears in Gerry Feltus's book, The Unknown Man. Clive pointed out the use of a set of initials T.K. in a partially decoded version of the SM code.

Here's a Transcript of some of the information in the document that was submitted to the SA Police in 1970:

1. VOWS JT/JM TAKEN T.K.LAST WAS MB I MISS MOST                                   SIGNED AMM

2. VOWS JT/JM TAKEN T.K. LAST WAS MB I MISS AMM MOST

IN ABOVE MESSAGES T.K MIGHT MEAN T.KEANN(E)
IN ABOVE MESSAGES  HB MIGHT MEAN HENLEY BEACH
IN ABOVE MESSAGES AMM MAY BE DECEASED SIGNATURE

INFERENCES TO BE DRAWN FROM ABOVE MESSAGES:-

1. T.K. MAY HAVE BEEN A BIGAMIST

2. HB MAY AVE BEEN AN EARLIER WIFE
OR
AMM

3. T.K. MAY HAVE BEEN AN ALIAS. THEREFORE AMM MAY HAVE BEEN THE CORRECT NAME

4. ORGINAL MARRIAGE MAY HAVE BEEN H.B. TO AMM

TO THE ABOVE LIST I WILL ADD JESSICA THOMSON, THE INITIALS JT IGHT JUST BE HERS.

The above is only a small part of the decryption offered by the, as yet unknown contributor who sent the information to SAPOL. It is available in Gerry Feltus's book, THE UNKOWN MAN. I will ask Gerry for permission to publish a full copy of the pages involved.

As we now know, T.K. were the initials not only of T. Keane but also of TIBOR KALDOR, a person whom we have shown has a connection to the case and have recently released even more information on the man. To add to that information we can say that, having contacted Vienna University, there was no record of TIBOR KALDOR having attended there. Further research is taking place but that is how it stands at the moment.

UPDATE:

Just heard from Clive, Vienna University confirms that they have no record of a Tibor Kaldor in the Philosophical faculty between 1922 and 1937, the years when Tibor should have been there. It seems highly likely that, whoever this man was, his name was not Tibor Kaldor. We seem to have a false identity which fits with the code decrypt information above. We will check further against his mother's first husband's name, Schoen. (Thanks Misca!)

The decrypt did not take into account what is commonly known as the 'crossed out' line.' My view is that because the SA Police are said to have written over indentations on the book then it would be very difficult to know whether the line was put in place first or the letters, hence we should really try to replicate the work of the contributor and include the real second line in the effort.

What does this mean to the existence of micro-writing, simply put, it changes nothing, the micro-writing is definitely there as has now been proven. How it relates to the actual letters, I am not at all sure. It could well be that what we have is two codes in one. That is, we have the letters as seen on the code page with one meaning and we have the micro code with another meaning.

We suggest that, given the full circumstances and the finding of Tibor Kaldor's body two weeks to the day following SM's death also in Adelaide, that those initials were for Tibor Kaldor. A major piece of the puzzle has emerged.

In the last few months, more progress has been made in this case than in the previous 67 years. All it took was Clive to spot the article in the Adelaide press regarding Tibor Kaldor's death and the SM case has moved on significantly since that time.

There's more work to be done but I believe we are n the right track and the end of this story may well be closer than many would have thought possible.

More will be posted on this breakthrough next week. If this works out well, we may have yet another set of initials and in that case we have a list of some 3000 +  internees against which we can run a comparison.

UPDATE: 26th December 2016

A first cut of the names of the Dunera Boys and other German Internees have given us 5 names that get close to matching the AMM initials. Some of these men have photographs and two in particular look to be very interesting, too early to say more at this time. The pics and information will be published in the next few days.

Enough leads for the sleuths out there to jump in and start searching!

  1. Season's greetings to you also, Gordon. I continue to follow with interest: the latest is promising. I have a copy of 'Without Hardware'. What a blast from the past! A paranoid work! Catherine Dalton, wife of a NZ physicist, and daughter of Robert Graves, who wrote a rather distant and mealy-mouthed introduction, may have had good reason to be paranoid. Her husband developed the fast breeder reactor and died young. She was a leftist and I think some anti-nuclear campaigners active post-1980 may be her children. She and her husband were active right in the period of early cold war when paranoia was endemic in The Left, & no doubt highly politically aware. So the relevance is high & said children may well have pertinent information. I am in Victoria right now, the book is in NSW - if there is anything you know/suspect may be in there I'll have a look - I'll have a look anyway, when I return in two weeks - it has been 30 years since I read it. Hi Clive, hope you're as well as can be & do have an Adequate New Year. Keep up the good work.

  2. Add to that the inclusion of the Bogle-Chandler case and we have intrigue aplenty. If we can accept that SM was of the left then the good senator. himself a staunch labour man, could have been trying to tell us that perhaps these murders were the work of a Western, right wing, country.

What I would b very ken to know is just which country the 'unknown' contributor came from. It was mentioned that he did not have a good command of the English language, could he have been yet another internee/POW? We may have some more about that in the next post.

Thanks for your kind wishes, hope you had a great day yesterday!

  3. Gordon/Clive - When searching for Tibor at Vienna University, did you search for "Tibor Schoen" as well? He listed his father as Julius Schoen, his mother as Rosa Breuer on his "Report on Internee" form. He specify states that Kaldor is his stepfather's name.

Wishing everyone all the best for the holidays and the New Year!

  4. Hi Robert, Thanks for your comments-hope all is well with you! Just seen Misca's comments regarding Tibor's father's surname (Schoen) and, as Gordon mentions in his blog, this may have a bearing on information which may be dug up in Vienna. I've e-mail the archives in Vienna to inform them, My thanks to Misca for spotting this possibility, which is more than I did! Clive

  5. Don't quite understand where that "decrypt" comes from, however:
I don't think "vows" would refer to marriage, rather some sort of oath (or better yet "SWEARS" - as in 'X swears Y was taken...")
I'm not seeing the "HB" you keep mentioning - do you mean "MB"?
No matter how you look at it, the message itself seems quite cryptic - almost to the point of now needing encryption to mask it
What if 'I' is '1' (like Roman Numerals)....then "MB1" might refer to something.
    MISS ~ Missile?
It seems odd that there's dots to show "T.K." is an initial, but not so for "JT/JM" - or is that just a transcription thing?

I'd be interested to know exactly how this code came to be....

    1. Hi, The code decrypt is interesting, we have only published oe small part of the content of the letter that was sent to the SA Police and which contained the decrypt information. The whole content is in Gerry Feltus's book and I have emailed him for permission to use it, that may take a little while to organise so we're looking at other sources as well. It doesn't make things any easier :)

The HB actually comes from an earlier part of the decrypt and I certainly understand your comments about Vow versus Swear, very valid comment. It sounds you have read some background on coding and that tells me that you would be aware that decrypting some codes is an inexact science to say the least. In this case for this man to have stumbled accidentally on both Jestyn's initials and what could well be Tibor Kaldor's initials in one short set of words is not exactly a credible argument. Room for doubt may be but lots of room for reasons to continue this path.

With regards to the dots, this is exactly how the wording etc appears in Gerry's book and as you say it could be a simple error.

If you can get a copy of Gerry Feltus's book that would be ideal. You would want to see pages 121 to 129 inclusive.

Personally I would like to see the letters from the so called 'crossed' out line included in this effort. The reason being that, as the markings were done over indentations, we cannot be absolutely certain that the line was put in place before or after the letters.

Many thanks for your comments, they add value to this discussion.

  6. Pete, the Tibor Kaldor story emanated from this blog, Clive has always been acknowledged as being part of the team and always will be. But what you are doing is lifting content from this blog and the content of this blog is my copyright, I wrote it. You need my permission to use content from this blog of you are running a story based on the work put in here.
