Back At The Desk, An Update and Why It Matters

A little while away away from regular posting, is, in research terms, not unusual. The work continues whether or not it surfaces publicly, and the past several months have been among the most productive since this investigation began some sixteen years ago.
The news today is that book project is well advanced. Many chapters of fact and evidence based material built on primary sources rather than received wisdom, and a scope that takes the 1948 case out of the realm of local curiosity and places it squarely inside the Cold War intelligence history it belongs to.
Alongside the book, we have been developing an advanced, specialised analytical software package capable of processing thousands of pages of historical archive material drawn from hundereds of sources, declassified signals intelligence, wartime operational records, personal files, and diplomatic correspondence. That work is ongoing, and it is changing what is possible to establish with confidence. A tool that will be available commercially in the near future.
So, I am back posting now partly because the blog audience, which has never stopped arriving, even during the quiet posting months, in fact we're now homing in on 1.5 million page visits, deserves to know where things stand at the moment. But also because the public conversation about the Somerton Man case has changed character recently, and not entirely for the better.
The growth in YouTube content about the case is noticeable. Some of the blog commentary about the case has also improved in tone, which is welcome. But without exception, the video content circulating at the moment either contains significant factual errors or omits developments that materially change the picture. The DNA identification for example is treated as settled when critical questions of physical evidence remain unresolved with a total rebuttal being published, link here:
Academia, Carl Webb Claim Rebuttal
The code page in some videos discussed without reference to what the cipher analysis now suggests, the intelligence context absent entirely.
Here is one small but telling example. Every YouTube video about the Somerton Man begins with the discovery of the body on the morning of 1 December 1948. Not one of them begins where the story actually begins, the previous evening, when Mr and Mrs Lyons took a walk along Somerton Beach and noticed a man lying on the sand. That man was alive, or appeared so. The timeline, and what it implies, changes considerably once you have the full facts in view.
If you have arrived here after watching one of those videos and found yourself wanting more, start here:

More posts follow shortly. There is a considerable amount to report.
