SOMERTON MAN AS HE MAY HAVE LOOKED IN LIFE...
This is an AI-created version of the face of the Somerton Man as he would have looked when he was alive. It is based on the original post-autopsy photograph.
I think that the right side of his face is a little distorted and the mouth could have been a little wider. Nonetheless, I think it's a good starting point for more such images including perhaps a 3D rotatable model, another level of difficulty involved in that as you might imagine.
And, if he were walking around Adelaide, he may have looked something like this:
Here's the comparison photograph:
And here's another image, this time with a slight smile:
A good question to ponder, just how would he have looked with those missing teeth?
And the answer is, that he would look something like this:
Very similar, the left ear isn't right though :) Can you change that?
ReplyDeleteYes, can modify the left ear. It needs a little tidy up yet.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good AI generated image. Very lifelike but of course it is an estimation based on the autopsy photos, not sure that it can get a lot better than this though. Good work.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, so lifelike. Brilliant technology. Don't think anyone has done this have they?
ReplyDeleteShort answer is yes, Daniel Voshart did a good job on creating an image but it done to the specifications given to him by Professor Abbott and at a time when the Professor was proclaiming that his wife's grandfather was the Somerton Man. I informed Daniel of the issue regarding the teeth and the dental chart that showed clearly that the Somerton Man did not have anodontia but had 18 missing teeth. Why is that important? It's a known fact that with so many missing teeth, the shape of the face alters especially the jaw, as far as I am aware, no allowance had been made for that.
DeleteThe other and critically important issue is that the base model for Daniel's work was not the Autopsy photographs of the Somerton Man but the plaster bust. In my discussions with the late Paul Lawson, he had told me that he followed instructions given to him and used the autopsy photographs to model the face but the structure was based on the head of the body on which he built the bust. Does the bust image match the Somerton Man's face in the photographs? Not as closely as it could. The bust certainly doesn't match the photograph of Carl Webb of which only 3 exist. One in his younger footy playing days and two from the one family gathering photograph neither of which are particularly clear. So with great respect to Daniel whilst the technical work he did back then was outstanding, the closeness of the image to the face of the Somerton Man is not a good match.
I created these images using readily available AI tools, DALL E, and in my view the facial features are very close to the physical appearance of the Somerton Man when he was alive.
In the end of course we are all in the hands of the Coroner who will no doubt in due course announce his findings.
For everyone's consideration. The research and investigation into the Somerton Man case has gone on for many years. Numerous theories have been put forward and have fell by the wayside. I have nothing but respect for those who have worked hard and finding the answers, especially those who have focused on the evidence. In recent years we have seen now 3 major announcements made by Professor Abbott. the first was the publication of the 'rare' ear type that when taken together with his other claim that the man had anodontia, a dental condition that meant that the two lateral incisors adjacent to the two central incisors on the upper jaw were missing but were replaced by two other teeth, the canines or cuspids. The two conditions combined were said to be extremely rare and that is when we heard again from Professor Abbott that Jestyn's son Robyn had this rare combination. And thus we had the 'Love Child' theory.
ReplyDeleteAt the time I was in touch with Jestyn's grandson who forwarded a video clip of himself with an image of his left ear. This young man's mother came along after the Somerton Man's time. The young man had a left ear identical to that of the SOmerton Man but there was no possible connection between the two. I informed Professor Abbott of this issue but he decided to ignore it and pushed ahead with his theory gaining much attention from the media. I also informed Professor Abbott that the dental chart taken by Dr Dwyer showed conclusively that the Somerton Man did not have anodontia, he had 18 'missing' teeth, there were gaps where the lateral incisors should have been. The Professor pushed ahead with his theory stating that Dwyer made a mistake. No proof of that statement was forthcoming. Professor Abbott later married into Jestyn's family and the Professor proclaimed that she was the granddaughter of the Somerton Man. All of this without a skerrick of evidence, in fact the evidence directly contradicted his claims.
And now here we are yet again, this time we have Carl Webb as the Somerton Man but as yet no positive proof has emerged. The loudly announced findings rested on the work of a DNA specialist laboratory who had found a way to make an identification from rootless hairs, cutting edge stuff and questionable. Sad to say, the said specialist company seems now no longer to be in existence. We should add that in discussions with Paul Lawson, he confirmed that in order to hold the hair of the man on whom he based the plaster bust, in place, he used mortuary soap, he plastered the mans hair down with that soap. The problem being that Mortuary soap destroys DNA. That being the case, there was no chance that hair from the bust would have contained any form of DNA.Yet another issue was the practice plaster bust makers at the time was to use human hair in the plaster mix to better bind the mix together. A nod to John Sanders here, he turned that gem up some time ago.
The question facing all serious researchers and investigators is this, how much credibility is left for the Somerton Man case? Has it been totally destroyed by the Professor? Who is going to listen to anyone who finds anything of value in this case?
This is for the anonymous person who without fail sends in very short abusive comments knowing full well that they will not be published. I wonder why you feel the need to send in these comments, do you ever wonder why you do it? In reality there is only one purpose that you could have and that is to wound and offend the person who it is aimed at. In this case it fails, I have had to deal with a similar illness of a close family member for many years and I recognise the problems you face. Your behaviour is symptomatic of some fairly serious mental health issues, Borderline personality disorder or perhaps Bipolar. Whichever it is or maybe, you really should get some professional help, if you leave it untreated your condition and your behaviours will worsen and that will not be good either for you or for those close to you. If you won't think of the effects on yourself, then please consider them. Take care of yourself.

He's starting to look more like Jack Thompson than Carl Webb. 😉
