The top image is Carl Webb's brother Roy who sadly perished as a POW on WW2. Ears are to an extent an inherited feature, you will quite often find that members of the same family have very similar shaped ears. In the image above we can see quite clearly that Roy has a long and tapered ear. As you can see in the next image, that's a feature shared with his brother Carl:
This is the image at the top of the blog showing the younger Carl and the mid to late-20s Carl, and now we add the photograph of Roy:
The purpose of this comparison is to demonstrate the similarity between the two family members.

The comparison sketch above comes from a scholarly article that looks at the changes in facial appearance, including the ears, as we age. In this sketch we have 3 images showing a subject at 30 years, 50 years and 80 years.
The Somerton Man was aged around 45 years old when found, the very small difference in the right ear lobe shown, is, therefore, being a man of 50, shows more growth than there would be in a man of 45 years. The way our ears change does not affect the structure of the ear as wrongly stated by Professor Abbott. Our ear lobes grow at between .3 and .5 mm a year once we hit 30 years or so, importantly the structure of the ear, as in the shape of the ear lobe, does not change.

The image above shows the entirely different shape of the Somerton Man's right ear, the inner ear, the outer and inner Helix are totally different from those of Carl Webb.
