SOFT DUST COVER
WHITCOMBE & TOMBS RUBAIYAT
This is the dust cover of a copy of the Whitcombe and Tombs edition of the Rubaiyat said by some to be the same edition found in the glove box of a car in Glenelg some months after the finding of the body of the Somerton Man. There is a download for the complete copy at the base of this post. You might notice that there is a rule at the top of the image from which you will be able to get a fair idea of the dimensions of the book cover and in the download you can get the dimensions of the actual book which is slightly different.Let's take a look at another image, this one is of the page from the above book containing the words Tamam Shud:
From this image you can get a good idea of the width measurement of the typed phrase TAMAM SHUD, I make that to be 38 mm from the top left of the letter T to the edge of the letter d.
Now for comparison, here's an image of the actual torn piece found rolled up tight and pushed well down into the 'secret' fob pocket in the waistband of the man's trousers sometime after his body was discovered. For the record, the piece was so well pushed down that Burtie Cleland had to use tweezers to get it out of the pocket:
Measuring this piece, I make the distance from the far left top left of the letter T to the edge of the letter d on the right to be 38 mm, an exact match to the book example shown above.
38 mm = 1.496 inches (1.5" typeset?)
