Somerton Man: Name found on Code Page and more..

Cleaned Image of Last Line End
Shows Clear Writing and a Name:

Is it a name? Or is it part of a word? Looks to be like the word/name KING.
For those interested, I used the InkH recovery method of bleaching the dark area adjacent to the last two letters of the last line being AR and underscore as per the post earlier last year on the likelihood of the larger letters on the page being radio operators 'Pro Signs'. What's your take? Click on the images to view enlarged versions..

At the other end of the page around the M & R, there's more:

I picked out and marked only the more clear instances, there are others as you will probably see in the image above. Note that the use of bleach makes the paper very fragile. Click on the image to view an enlarged version..

  1. Hi Gordon, Very interesting finds-could the "AVO" stand for "AVON" jet engine? Clive

    1. It could be part of the word AVON. That particular RR engine was designed in 1945 and first tested in 1946. It was supposed to replace the Nene engine which Australia ordered for their 50 Vampire jets in 1947. When the news of the Vampire order was announced the reader mentioned that 15 key personnel from Australia were already in the UK studying the design of the Nene. It wouldn't be big stretch to assume that these people would have known about the then secret work on the Avon.
I will try to uncover more of the letters which may confirm or disprove the spelling. It would be very interesting to find out the names and associates of the 15 key people. Is that something you could do Clive?
